ASRock has publicly admitted responsibility for AMD Ryzen 9000 processor damage related to incorrect BIOS settings on their motherboards and announced measures to address the problem.

In an interview with YouTube channel Gamers Nexus, ASRock motherboard division vice president Chris Lee officially acknowledged the company's responsibility for issues causing AMD Ryzen 9000 processor damage. The incident affected approximately 100 registered cases of processor failures.

The Root Cause of the Problem

Initially, ASRock explained processor instability as RAM module compatibility issues. However, detailed investigation revealed the actual cause — incorrect Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) automatic overclocking function settings in motherboard BIOS.

According to Chris Lee, the problem was excessive TDC (Thermal Design Current) and EDC (Electrical Design Current) parameter values in PBO settings. These values determine allowable current limits for the processor, and exceeding them could lead to CPU damage.

Corrective Measures

ASRock released BIOS version 3.25 update, which reduced critical PBO parameters to safe values. The company stated this solution should eliminate the risk of processor damage in the future.

The manufacturer also committed to covering all expenses related to repairing damaged motherboards, including shipping costs for equipment diagnostic and repair services.

Unresolved Issues

Despite the measures taken, several difficulties remain. Users report continuing problems even after updating to BIOS 3.25. Moreover, cases of processor failures have been recorded with PBO mode completely disabled.

Another serious problem is the difficulty in determining the source of failure. When systems suddenly fail, users cannot accurately determine whether the processor or motherboard is damaged. ASRock recommends contacting retailers or AMD directly, effectively shifting the diagnostic burden to consumers.

Criticism of Company Transparency

Experts note ASRock's lack of transparency in addressing the issue. The company's official website still lacks press releases or official statements on this matter. Information became available only through investigations by independent YouTube channels.

The ASRock vice president also failed to provide detailed data about specific BIOS setting changes or plans to prevent similar incidents in the future.

User Recommendations

ASRock motherboard owners with Ryzen 9000 processors are strongly advised to update their BIOS to version 3.25 or later. If system stability issues arise, contact ASRock support or the equipment retailer.
