A new AI service called YouTube-Tools has emerged that can determine a user's location and other personal data by analyzing just one YouTube comment. The developers claim their system can find information about any user of the video hosting platform.

How the System Works

The service uses a neural network from Mistral to analyze a massive database containing 20 billion messages from 1.4 billion users. The algorithm studies various aspects of user behavior:

  • Which videos a person reacts to
  • What words and phrases they use
  • What topics they raise in comments
  • Linguistic features and preferences

Analysis Capabilities

As a result of data processing, the tool can determine:

  • User's primary language
  • Political views
  • Approximate location
  • Cultural preferences

In addition to YouTube analysis, the developers also offer investigation of accounts on social networks X (formerly Twitter), Twitch, Kick, and other platforms.

Practical Example

A journalist from 404 Media tested the tool on a random YouTube account. The service analyzed dozens of comments within seconds and generated a detailed report. One of the conclusions read: "Possible location/region: presence of comments in Italian and references to X Factor Italia and Italian cuisine suggests a connection to Italy."

Availability and Cost

YouTube-Tools developers position their service as a tool to help law enforcement agencies. However, in practice, anyone can use the platform. Access to the service's functions requires a subscription starting from €13.5 per month, provided users comply with the law.

Ethical Questions

The emergence of such technologies raises serious questions about user privacy and security on the internet. An open question remains: who will ultimately benefit more from the service – law enforcement agencies or potential malicious actors, including fraudsters and stalkers.

Cybersecurity experts recommend users be cautious when publishing personal information in comments and pay more attention to their digital privacy.
