After years of anticipation and numerous speculations, Rockstar Games has finally confirmed the exact release date for Grand Theft Auto VI ā the game will launch on May 26, 2026, exclusively for next-generation consoles: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
According to the developers, the extended development cycle was necessary to create "an unprecedented scale and detail of the game world." GTA VI will return players to the fictional Vice City, inspired by Miami, with a completely revamped system for interacting with the surrounding environment.
Key features of the new game include:
- Dynamic changing of seasons and weather conditions that affect gameplay
- A revolutionary AI-based NPC dialogue system
- Two playable main characters: Lucia and Jason
- The ability to explore not only urban areas but also extensive natural territories
Rockstar also announced that pre-orders for GTA VI will begin in September 2025, with the standard edition priced at $79.99. Extended editions will also be available with exclusive content and early access to certain GTA Online features.
Regarding the PC version, the studio has remained silent so far; however, following the tradition of previous releases in the series, the PC version can be expected approximately a year to a year and a half after the console debut.
The video game industry has already reacted to the announcement ā shares of Take-Two Interactive, Rockstar's parent company, rose by 8% following the exact date announcement. Analysts predict record-breaking sales, considering that the previous installment in the series, GTA V, has sold over 190 million copies and became one of the most profitable entertainment products of all time.
