Information security specialists have discovered a new threat targeting Android device users. The virus, named SuperCard X, is malicious software that disguises itself as legitimate applications in app stores and third-party resources.
How Does the SuperCard X Virus Work?
After installation on a device, SuperCard X covertly requests permissions to use the NFC module and access notifications. Users, unaware of the danger, often grant these permissions. After this, the virus begins to operate in the background, intercepting payment data and making unauthorized transactions when the device is brought near payment terminals.
What makes SuperCard X particularly dangerous is its ability to activate the NFC module even when the screen is locked and mimic the operation of legitimate payment applications.
Signs of Infection
Users may suspect the presence of the virus on their device by the following signs:
- Unexpected activation of NFC without user participation
- Appearance of strange payment notifications
- Unexplained increase in battery consumption
- Charges that the user did not make
How to Protect Against SuperCard X?
Experts recommend the following precautions:
- Install antivirus software from trusted developers
- Install applications only from the official Google Play Store
- Carefully check requested permissions when installing applications
- Turn off NFC when the feature is not in use
- Regularly check transaction history in banking applications
- Keep your operating system and applications up to date
Virus Distribution
Currently, cases of SuperCard X infection have been recorded in several European countries, including Estonia. According to experts, the virus is spreading through fake game applications, device optimization utilities, and counterfeit versions of popular applications.
Banks and payment systems are already working to strengthen security measures, but users are advised to exercise increased vigilance and follow the recommendations of information security specialists.
If suspicious activity is detected, you should immediately contact your bank, block your card, and seek professional help to remove the malicious software.
