The world of Linux distributions has been enriched with a new powerful version of a system focused on maximum security and privacy. Securonis Linux 3.0 is the biggest Securonis update in the project's history, offering users an unprecedented level of data protection.

Project Foundation and Philosophy

Securonis Linux is based on Debian's testing branch and includes a preconfigured tool that routes all traffic through the Tor network. The system comes with various privacy and security tools, as well as custom utilities developed specifically for this distribution.

Key Innovations in Version 3.0

The new version brought many significant improvements:

FireScorpion Browser

FireScorpion Browser is a hardened Firefox modification for privacy and security with ad and tracking blocking. This browser showed excellent results in EFF tests and can serve as a strong Tor alternative when used with Securonis.

New Security Tools

The distribution includes:

  • Data Destroyer — A GUI tool for securely erasing data by overwriting it
  • System Knight — A client for malware and rootkit scanning
  • ColdBootDef — A tool that clears RAM during system shutdown to prevent cold boot attacks
  • Speedtest — A CLI utility for measuring internet speed

Updated Components

The system migrated to the more stable and faster OpenMammoth Lite version, received a completely redesigned password manager, and updated versions of Nuke2System, Paranoia, and PhysicalSec.

System Improvements

In addition to new tools, developers significantly improved system performance. The system kernel was upgraded from version 6.12.27 to 6.12.30, providing better stability and security.

System hardening settings now offer two new kernel modes: Performance and Extreme hardening, allowing users to choose the optimal balance between security and performance.

Farewell to GNOME

In this version, developers completely removed the GNOME desktop environment and will no longer offer GNOME versions. The decision was made in favor of the lighter MATE, allowing focus on the quality and stability of one interface.

Technical Information

Securonis Linux 3.0 was tested on various devices with AMD processors and NVIDIA graphics cards. The system uses open-source NVIDIA drivers, though it supports proprietary versions through a special utility.

It's important to note that AppArmor is not active in the Live system but becomes active after installation to the hard drive, providing an additional layer of security.

Who Securonis is For

This distribution is perfect for users who value privacy and security above all else. Journalists, activists, security specialists, and users who simply care about their privacy will find in Securonis a powerful tool for protecting their data.
