At the Worldwide Developers Conference WWDC 2025, Apple unveiled revolutionary updates to its automotive platform CarPlay as part of iOS 26. The new version brings transformative changes focused on enhancing safety and user convenience.

Widgets Come to Standard CarPlay

The flagship innovation is the addition of widgets to the standard CarPlay version. Previously, this feature was exclusive to CarPlay Ultra, but now all users can utilize weather, calendar, clock, smart home, and reminder widgets. The widgets are organized in two columns, allowing simultaneous display of two elements for maximum informativeness.

Live Actions for Real-Time Tracking

The Live Actions feature, popular on iPhone, is now available in CarPlay. Drivers can track sports scores, food delivery status, flight information, and other real-time data directly on the car's screen. The ability to pin items to the home screen allows for updates without diverting attention from the road.

Enhanced Notification System

The notification system has undergone significant improvements. Incoming calls now appear as compact pop-up windows with options to answer, end, or block calls. Message notifications display standard emojis for quick responses, and important chats can be pinned to the top of the list.

New "Liquid Glass" Design

Apple introduced an updated visual style called "Liquid Glass." The new design includes a refreshed color palette, more rounded app icon corners, and an enhanced dark mode, creating a modern and elegant interface.

Standard Version Limitations

It's important to note that standard CarPlay in iOS 26 still doesn't gain the ability to control vehicle functions like radio or climate control, nor does it extend to additional vehicle screens. These features remain exclusive to CarPlay Ultra.
