On June 6, 2025, the open-source video editor Flowblade 2.22 was released - a powerful tool for compositing video clips from individual video files, audio files, and images. The project's source code is written in Python and published on GitHub under the GPLv3 license.
Key Features of Flowblade
Video editor Flowblade provides professional video editing tools, including frame-accurate clip trimming, filter usage, tool application order definition, timeline behavior adjustment, and image compositing. The editor supports rotation, gradual replacement, and transition effect creation.
The program uses modern technologies: the MLT framework for video editing organization, the FFmpeg package for processing various formats, PyGTK-based interface, NumPy library for mathematical calculations, and PIL for image processing.
New Features in Version 2.22
Enhanced Animation Capabilities: Added 32 new keyframe interpolation types, divided into categories "advanced transition smoothing" and "effects". This significantly expands animation and filter control possibilities.
New Filter Editing Interface: Instead of traditional sliders for "Alpha Shape", "Crop", and "Gradient Fill" filters, specialized GUI editors are now used, providing more precise control over geometric parameters.
Modernized User Interface: Timecode has been moved from the middle panel to the video preview area, source video information is placed in the left part of the top panel, and tool icons have been moved to the middle panel.
Additional Improvements
- Added ability to attach text labels to tracks
- Removed startup splash screen for Wayland and GTK4 compatibility
- Implemented synchronized selection of multiple tracks
- Added "Distortion" property editing in "Position and Scale" series filters
- Continued codebase adaptation for GTK4
Technical Information
Flowblade provides over 50 image filters and over 30 audio filters. Support for video effect plugins from the Frei0r collection, LADSPA audio plugins, and G'MIC image filters is included. Builds are available in Flatpak format.
