The French non-profit organization Framasoft has introduced an updated version of the decentralized video hosting platform PeerTube 7.2. This release continues the development of the platform, which positions itself as an alternative to YouTube and Twitch with peer-to-peer technology support.

Key Features of PeerTube 7.2

Updated Video Management Interface

The main innovation is a completely redesigned interface for managing video content. Users now see their videos not as an infinite feed, but divided into separate pages. This significantly simplifies navigation and searching for the required content.

The ability to customize displayed columns has been added: title, duration, channel, view count, presence of comments, and publication date. The filtering system allows viewing only videos from specific channels or those matching specified criteria.

Improved Publishing System

The interface for publishing and updating live streams has received significant changes. It is now divided into separate sections with a convenient sidebar menu for navigation. The same menu now includes Studio mode editing and statistics viewing pages.

Unavailable modules are now clearly marked with tooltips explaining the reasons for unavailability. A horizontal banner has been added with cancel/save operation buttons and additional information about the encoding process.

Content Warning System

The system for hiding sensitive content has been improved. Video creators can add warning tags that help viewers decide whether to watch the material.

About PeerTube Platform

PeerTube is a decentralized streaming platform with open source code distributed under the AGPLv3 license. To host videos, you need to set up your own PeerTube instance, which ensures independence from centralized services.

The platform uses the ActivityPub protocol for communication between servers, allowing users to subscribe to channels from other instances and integrate with Mastodon and Pleroma. Currently, more than a thousand PeerTube instances are operating in the network.
