At the end of May 2025, the release of the free open-source cross-platform e-book editor Sigil 2.5.1 took place. The program uses Qt6 and QtWebEngine and is designed for editing books in ePub format (both ePub 2 and ePub 3).

Key Features of Sigil

Sigil is a professional tool for creating and editing electronic books. The source code is written in C++ and Python and published on GitHub under the GNU General Public License v3.0. The stable version Sigil 2.4.0 was released in January 2025, and version 2.5.0 was released in early May.

What's New in Version 2.5.1

In Sigil version 2.5.1, previously found errors and bugs have been fixed, and program performance has been improved. Main changes include:

  • Added AppImage .desktop file with version information
  • Removed AppImage bins element where possible
  • Updated documentation, including Sigil Plugin Framework version 15
  • Fixed previously added functions
