The anticipated Android 16 release is scheduled for summer this year. Despite most modern devices receiving this update, a whole range of still-relevant smartphones from Xiaomi and its sub-brands will remain without support for the new operating system version.

Xiaomi's Update Policy

The decision to discontinue support is based on the company's current device software strategy. Xiaomi traditionally provides updates for a specific period, after which older models stop receiving new Android versions.

Xiaomi Smartphones Without Android 16

The list of main lineup devices includes popular models from the 12 series:

  • Xiaomi 12 and Xiaomi 12 Pro
  • Xiaomi 12T and Xiaomi 12T Pro
  • Xiaomi 12 Lite and Xiaomi 12X
  • Xiaomi 12S series (including Ultra version)
  • Xiaomi Civi lineup (all models)

Redmi Devices Without Update

The Redmi sub-brand also excludes numerous models from the update program:

  • Entire Redmi Note 12 series (including Pro, Turbo, Speed and regional versions)
  • Redmi K50 lineup (all variants from basic to Gaming version)
  • Budget models Redmi 12, 12C and Redmi A series

Poco: Gaming and Mid-Range Segment

The gaming sub-brand Poco also loses Android 16 support for key models:

  • Poco F5 and F5 Pro (flagship lineup)
  • Poco X5 and X5 Pro (mid-range segment)
  • Budget Poco M5, C65, C55 and C51 series

Tablets Also Affected

The restrictions don't only apply to smartphones. Xiaomi tablets Pad 6, Pad 5 and Pad 5 Pro will also not receive Android 16, despite the relatively recent release of some of these models.

Decision Context

This decision follows a recent announcement about completely discontinuing software support for 12 older smartphone models from the company. This reflects Xiaomi's strategy to concentrate resources on new devices and modern technologies.

Alternatives for Users

Owners of the mentioned devices can consider upgrading to newer models or using custom firmware from the developer community, although the latter option requires technical knowledge and may affect warranty.
