Realtek has unveiled a lineup of affordable 10-gigabit Ethernet controllers that should dramatically transform the high-speed networking market and make 10G technology accessible to mainstream consumers.

Two years after releasing popular 5-gigabit controllers, Realtek has finally introduced the long-awaited lineup of 10-gigabit Ethernet solutions at Computex 2025. The new chips cover a wide range of applications ā from home computers to server systems and USB adapters.
Consumer Solutions for Mass Market
The foundation of the new lineup is the RTL8127 controller, targeted at the consumer segment. The chip supports the full speed range from 10 Mbps to 10 Gbps with power consumption under 2W. The use of PCIe 4.0 x1 interface ensures compatibility with most modern motherboards.
Server and Specialized Variants
For the enterprise segment, the RTL8127AP was developed with full remote management support through DASH 1.2 protocol. This solution provides administrators with extended capabilities for monitoring and managing network infrastructure.
Special attention deserves the RTL8127ATF and RTL8127AT controllers designed for fiber optic connections. While they don't support standard 10/100 Mbps speeds, their power consumption is just slightly over 1W. These models feature PCIe Gen 3 x2 and PCIe Gen 4 x1 interfaces with a physical PCIe x2 connector.
USB Solutions for Portability
The company also demonstrated the RTL8159 controller with USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface, providing 10 Gbps throughput. This solution opens possibilities for creating portable 10-gigabit adapters and expansion devices.
Revolution in Network Infrastructure
Beyond LAN controllers, Realtek introduced a series of new 10 Gbps Ethernet PHY integrated circuits. These components are critically important for creating affordable network switches and may find applications in next-generation routers and cable modems.
The new PHYs will also pave the way for more affordable copper adapters (transceivers) SFP+ with RJ45 connectors, significantly expanding the possibilities for building high-speed networks.
Price Accessibility ā Key to Mass Adoption
While exact pricing isn't disclosed, Realtek representatives stated that the price of new 10-gigabit chips will be twice that of 5-gigabit solutions. This means consumer 10G network cards could appear in retail for under $50.
The first motherboards with integrated RTL8127 controller are expected this year, while retail network cards should hit the market in Q4 2025.
