Mark Zuckerberg introduced the new smart glasses Meta Ray-Ban Display at Meta Connect conference, featuring a 600×600 pixel projection display, AI assistant, and electromyographic control.

Meta has introduced a long-awaited innovation in wearable technology — the Meta Ray-Ban Display smart glasses priced at $799. Mark Zuckerberg personally demonstrated the device's capabilities at the Meta Connect conference.

Technical Features

The main feature of the glasses is a small 600×600 pixel display projected onto the right lens. The screen remains invisible to others around you, ensuring privacy of use.

The glasses are equipped with a built-in camera and AI assistant capable of answering questions about the surrounding world and translating conversations in real time. The display can show subtitles, navigation maps, Instagram feed, video call images, messengers, and media player.

Device Control

The glasses are controlled using an electromyographic wristband that reads muscle signals when performing gestures — pinching and waving. This allows instant screen switching and app control without using hands.

Current Limitations

Despite the innovation of the solution, the device firmware currently shows instability — several glitches occurred during the presentation. Zuckerberg spent almost two minutes on stage trying to answer a video call.

It's important to note that Meta Ray-Ban Display are glasses with a screen, not a full AR device with augmented reality that many users expected. The company plans to release a full AR gadget based on the Orion prototype later.

Expert Reviews

Initial reviews are positive. Lance Ulanoff from TechRadar notes that while Meta hasn't solved all form factor problems yet, the innovation gives hope that AI glasses could replace smartphones in the future.

Availability and Price

The Meta Ray-Ban Display costs $799 (approximately 66,000 rubles at current exchange rates). Sales will begin on September 30th only in the USA. The device will arrive in Canada, France, Italy, and the UK next year.
