According to recent leaks from insider MEGAsizeGPU, the upcoming budget graphics card Nvidia RTX 5050 will be equipped with the fastest version of GDDR6 memory ā modules with 20 Gbps speed. This is the same memory used in AMD RX 9070 series graphics cards and the GDDR6 variant of RTX 4070.
RTX 5050 Memory Specifications
Using 20 Gbps GDDR6, the RTX 5050 will have a memory bandwidth of 320 GB/s. This represents 40% of the RTX 5060's bandwidth, which has 448 GB/s. The significant drop in memory bandwidth corresponds to a 50% reduction in CUDA cores compared to the RTX 5060.
Advantages of 20 Gbps GDDR6
20 Gbps GDDR6 is the fastest version of GDDR6 memory among all GPUs on the market. This memory is almost as fast as Micron's 21 Gbps GDDR6X used in RTX 30 and RTX 40 series ā the difference is only 5%.
Power Efficiency
The main advantage of Samsung's GDDR6 lies in power consumption. 20 Gbps GDDR6 requires only 1.1V to operate, while older GDDR6 versions and Micron's GDDR6X require 1.35V (23% more voltage).
Differences Between Manufacturers
The RTX 5050 may face small performance differences (1-2%) depending on whether Samsung or SK Hynix modules are used. Models with SK Hynix memory show 1-2% better performance due to more aggressive timings, while Samsung prioritizes power efficiency.
Technical Specifications
The RTX 5050 will feature 2,560 CUDA cores, 20 SM units, and a 128-bit memory interface based on the GB207 chip. The expected Boost clock is around 2,520 MHz. No official release date has been announced, but a launch is expected during 2025.
Comparison with Competitors
Using the same memory as the RX 9070 XT and RTX 4070 will allow the RTX 5050 to compete in the budget segment with respectable memory bandwidth, despite reduced computational capabilities.
