Taiwanese company DM&P Electronics introduced a new industrial processor Vortex86EX3 with unique Master-Slave architecture that allows simultaneous operation of two operating systems without virtualization.

Taiwanese company DM&P Electronics has introduced the new Vortex86EX3 processor — the company\'s most powerful x86-based solution. The processor is specifically designed for industrial applications and can operate in extreme conditions with temperatures ranging from -40 to +85 °C.
Unique Master-Slave Architecture
The main feature of Vortex86EX3 is the presence of two computing cores with clock frequencies of 1.2–1.6 GHz, operating in a Master–Slave configuration. Each core has its own independent BIOS instance, enabling simultaneous operation of two operating systems without the use of hypervisor and virtualization tools.
The Master block is responsible for maintaining user interface and application operations, while the Slave block manages real-time input-output interfaces. This architecture ensures high reliability and performance in mission-critical industrial applications.
Technical Specifications
Each core contains 256 KB of L2 cache, as well as 32 KB of L1 cache for instructions and data. The processor supports LPDDR4 memory with error correction (ECC).
Vortex86EX3 is equipped with an extensive set of interfaces:
- Two SD/eMMC interfaces
- Two PCIe 2.0 lines
- Two 10/100 Mbps network interfaces
- One parallel port
- 4 USB 2.0 ports
- 10 COM ports
- 20 GPIO lines
- 8 SPI interfaces
- 8 I2C interfaces
- 3 CAN interfaces
HD-Audio and LCD controllers are also implemented. The chip is manufactured in a BGA package with 627 contacts measuring 17 × 17 mm.
Operating System Support
The processor supports a wide range of operating systems: Windows 10, WinCE 5/6/7, Linux 2.x–6.6, QNX 7.0, RTOS-32, DOS, and Yocto Project. DM&P, in partnership with ICOP Technology, demonstrated the ability to simultaneously run Linux (Debian) and Windows Embedded Compact 7.
The Vortex86EX3 processor can be used in real-time automation systems, providing high performance and reliability in industrial environments.
