Realtek, traditionally recognized for its audio, multimedia, and networking controllers for budget PCs, continues its aggressive expansion into the SSD controller market. At Computex 2025, the company announced the commencement of sample shipments of its new RTS5781DL controller to interested partners.

RTS5781DL Technical Specifications

The new Realtek RTS5781 controller represents a DRAM-less solution compliant with the NVMe 2.0 standard and equipped with a PCIe 5.0 x4 interface. The controller is specifically engineered for mainstream storage devices and boasts impressive technical capabilities.

Key features include four NAND channels supporting data transfer rates of 3600 MT/s and a 4K LDPC error correction system ensuring compatibility with modern 3D TLC and 3D QLC memory types. The controller can achieve sequential read and write speeds of up to 10,000 MB/s, while random read and write performance reaches 1.4 million IOPS for each operation.

Security and Encryption

The RTS5781DL fully supports TCG OPAL 2.0, Pyrite, and AES256 encryption security standards, enabling storage device manufacturers to address applications with elevated data security requirements.

Market Launch Prospects

Despite the typical SSD development cycle that usually requires considerable time, Realtek optimistically forecasts the appearance of RTS5781-based products as early as Q2 2026, though more realistic estimates point to the second half of 2026.

Premium Segment Plans

Beyond the RTS5781, the company is developing a more powerful RTS5782 controller with integrated DRAM memory support. This chip will feature eight NAND channels with 3600 MT/s support and will be capable of delivering sequential read speeds up to 14 GB/s and write speeds up to 12 GB/s, along with random performance up to 2.5 million IOPS.

However, the RTS5782 status remains uncertain as the controller is still in the development and validation phase.
