At the European TwitchCon conference, platform CEO Dan Clancy unveiled a series of significant updates that will fundamentally transform the streaming user experience.

Vertical Streaming for Mobile Devices

One of the key innovations will be support for vertical streaming, adapted for comfortable viewing on smartphones. This feature will allow streamers to create content specifically for portrait mode, which is particularly relevant for mobile audiences.

In the future, dual-format technology implementation is planned, enabling simultaneous vertical and horizontal streaming. Testing of this innovative feature will begin this summer on a limited number of channels, with coverage expanding significantly by year-end.

2K (1440p) Quality Streaming

Twitch is launching an open beta version of 1440p resolution streaming, available to all partners and affiliated content creators. The new quality provides a noticeable improvement in visual experience compared to traditional 1080p.

As platform representatives note, the transition to 2K streaming represents a significant step forward with richer detail, enhanced image clarity, and improved performance. This applies to all content types - from gaming streams to creative activities and simple audience interaction.

Live Stream Rewind Function

The long-awaited ability to rewind live broadcasts will become available to viewers this summer. This feature is particularly useful if a viewer missed something during the stream or wants to rewatch an interesting moment.

Initially, the rewind function will be available to a limited number of users as part of testing, but coverage will gradually expand.

Technical Improvements

To ensure high-quality 2K streaming, Twitch plans to increase bitrate and implement a new HEVC codec that provides higher quality with lower bitrates. Enhanced Broadcasting technology will also be used for automatic parameter configuration.

These updates represent a significant step in streaming industry development and demonstrate Twitch's commitment to adapting to changing user needs and technological capabilities.
