Italian engineers have unveiled a revolutionary development — the world's first flying humanoid robot iRonCub3, capable of operating in extreme conditions and performing complex tasks at height.

Italian engineers have achieved a breakthrough in robotics by creating the world's first flying humanoid robot iRonCub3. This innovative development opens new horizons for artificial intelligence applications in the most challenging and dangerous conditions.

Technical Specifications of iRonCub3

The iRonCub3 robot is a compact yet powerful machine standing approximately 1 meter tall and weighing around 70 kilograms. Its design incorporates four jet engines: two mounted on the robot's "arms" and two more on a special "backpack" attached to a robust titanium "spine".

The turbines can generate a combined thrust of up to 1000 Newtons, providing the robot not only with the ability to lift off but also to maneuver in challenging weather conditions, including strong winds.

Intelligent Control System

The key feature of iRonCub3 is its advanced AI-based control system. The AI algorithms operate in real-time, continuously analyzing aerodynamic forces and adjusting flight parameters to ensure maximum maneuverability and stability.

Initial Tests and Results

During its first official test, the iRonCub3 robot successfully lifted off the ground to a height of 50 centimeters, demonstrating stable controlled flight. The next testing phase is planned to be conducted at a specialized facility at Genoa Airport, which will allow for a more detailed evaluation of the robot's capabilities in realistic conditions.

"Testing such robots is as exciting as it is dangerous, and there's no room for improvisation here," notes Daniele Pucci, one of the project's lead developers.

Application Prospects

Flying humanoid robots with artificial intelligence have enormous potential for application across various fields. Primarily, such robots will be able to participate in search and rescue operations during natural disasters, when access to victims is difficult or impossible through conventional means.

Additionally, iRonCub3 and similar robots can conduct research in dangerous and hard-to-reach environments where human presence involves unjustifiable risk.
