Anysphere, creator of the popular AI code editor Cursor, has introduced a new premium Ultra subscription plan priced at $200 per month. This decision aims to meet the needs of power users and large development teams in the era of active AI programming tool development.

What the Ultra Plan Offers

The new Ultra subscription plan provides users with 20 times more usage limits compared to the existing Pro plan at $20 per month. The plan includes access to AI models from leading providers: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and xAI.

In addition to increased limits, Ultra plan subscribers receive priority access to new Cursor features. According to Anysphere CEO Michael Truell, the Ultra plan implementation became possible through multi-year partnership agreements with AI model providers.

Anysphere's Phenomenal Growth

The premium plan launch comes against the backdrop of the company's impressive financial performance. In early June 2025, Anysphere announced that Cursor reached $500 million in annualized recurring revenue (ARR). The tool is used by major companies such as Nvidia, Uber, and Adobe.

Anysphere became one of the fastest-growing companies to reach $100 million ARR. According to reports, the company's ARR has grown by $200 million since April 2025, demonstrating exponential growth in the AI development tools sector.

Intensifying Competition

The AI coding tools market is becoming increasingly competitive. Many AI model providers that Cursor relies on are developing their own programming products. OpenAI has reportedly acquired Cursor's competitor Windsurf to strengthen its position in this segment.

Anthropic continues to develop Claude Code — its own AI coding tool. The company even took competitive measures by limiting Windsurf's direct access to Claude AI models to weaken the largest competitor OpenAI's positions.

Strategic Development of Proprietary Technologies

In response to growing competition, Anysphere began investing more resources in developing its own AI models that work alongside models from OpenAI and Anthropic. In May, the company introduced a new "Tab" AI model capable of suggesting code changes across various files.

Premium Subscription Trend in AI Industry

Anysphere's decision follows a general industry trend. In recent months, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google DeepMind have also launched more expensive subscription plans ranging from $100 to $250 per month, seeking to monetize their most active users and offer them expanded capabilities.

Despite intensifying competition, Anysphere's multi-year partnership agreements with leading AI model providers indicate that these relationships will continue to develop. However, the battle for users in AI coding is becoming increasingly intense.
